Figures gaming is a table-top game in which figures or miniatures are used to represent players’ characters. These figures are typically made from plastic or pewter, but some are also cast in resin. The most popular figure scale is 25 mm, closely corresponding to the 1:76 model railroad scale. This is the standard scale for wargaming, and is used by a number of well-known manufacturers, including Pendraken Miniatures, Newlines, Irregular Miniatures, Magister Militum, Steve Barber, Kallistra, Old Glory, and Games Workshop’s Warmaster line of miniatures. Figures in this scale often have oversized heads, hands, and weapons. These exaggerations began as concessions to the limitations of primitive mold-making and sculpting techniques, and have evolved into stylistic conventions.

Another popular figurine scale is 30 mm, which is roughly the same as 1/72 scale figures (often referred to as OO or 00 gauge). This is used mainly for historical warfare games, but also for science fiction gaming. Figures in this scale can be very large, but are usually balanced by bulky sculpting and thick bases.
