Marvel Figurines

Marvel figurines are small, three-dimensional sculptures that represent characters from a particular comic book series. They may depict an individual superhero or a group of them in action. These collectibles can be made from a variety of materials, with clay or metal being the most common. Some are also made of glass, while others are ceramic or resin. They are often sold in sets, with a 20-page illustrated magazine that explains the character’s origin and appearances included with each figure.

Figurines have a long history, dating back as far as ancient times, but the term gained popularity in the nineteenth century with the rise of popular comic books. In the modern world, figurines are a fun way to display one’s fandom, with companies such as Eaglemoss producing figurines that can be purchased individually or as part of a series. These collectibles usually come in boxes or bags, but some are sealed in plastic to protect them during shipping.

The Marvel figurine collection from Eaglemoss Publications is a set of hand-painted lead figures representing the key heroes and villains in the Marvel Universe. The figures are produced at a 1:21 scale, with regular figurines measuring 9 cm (3.5 in) tall. The Marvel Comics Figurine Collection includes a variety of different sets, including single figures, double packs and larger Mega Specials featuring bulkier characters such as the Hulk. The figures are also available in different finishes, with metallic and painted versions being the most common.

In the ’90s, Marvel toy licenses began to expand, with Kenner creating the Super Hero Squad line and Toy Biz producing the Marvel Legends figure line. The latter offered more detail than previous action figures, with sculpts that were closer to the likenesses of the comic book artists and thematically appropriate for the Marvel Universe at the time of their release.

Toy Biz also expanded their line to include 12-inchers, playsets and vehicles. Some figures, such as this Thor figure, even included cape-firing features to replicate the action of the films.

In 2013, the Marvel Legends line began to feature a new paint scheme, reminiscent of the comics artwork that had inspired it. Some of these repainted single carded figures were sold at Family Dollar stores, and as such they are sometimes informally known as the “Family Dollar variants”.
